Research and project team – Principle No. 3: let team members shine

Posted by

The Principle No. 3 of a successful team, which was proposed by A. Sobel in his article “The Beatles Principles,” is: let team members shine on the whole team.

Although the driving force behind the Beatles was John Lennon and Paul McCartney – authors of most of the band’s songs – the other musicians, George Harrisom and Ringo Starr, were equally popular. To ensure that all members of the Beatles were recognized by the public, the band used a variety of procedures. For example, in rock bands, usually the least known figure is the drummer. To counteract this, Lennon and McCarntey, wrote a special song for Ringo Starr, “With a Littre Help from My Friends,” and put his instrument on the rise. Also Harrisom was not a supporting character. In time, the leading duo allowed him to create songs for the “Abbey Road” album, such as “Here Comes the Sun” and “Something.”

In a company, it is important that all team members feel valued and are aware of their role in the company. Making stars out of individual employees usually benefits the entire company. Known employees are better recognized by customers, and at the same time feel appreciated for their work. An anonymous team tends to be less efficient in its operations and problem-solving.

We will introduce Principle No. 4 in our next blog post.
